First Day Back in Fitness After Years

After a lengthy absence, I’ve finally returned to the gym! In this post, and in the ones that follow, I’ll share my experiences navigating this new fitness world.

A Bit of Backstory

For years, I was a dedicated gym-goer. My routine revolved around cardio exercises, primarily because my university commute easily ticked off my daily goal of 10,000 steps. I eventually transitioned to running outdoors, gradually moving away from gym workouts. But now that I’m working from home, my step count has taken a hit. Thus, I decided it was time to hit the gym again.

I used to rise early to work out, typically around 7 AM, but my schedule has shifted. I’m now heading to the gym after 6 AM, which feels like a whole new ball game.

What I Noticed Upon Return

Crowded Gyms

First off, wow, are gyms crowded these days! I expected to see about 15 to 20 people, but it turns out there are often 50 or more! It’s a completely different atmosphere—definitely a challenge for someone trying to ease back into a routine.

Music Selection

Speaking of atmosphere, the music has changed a lot! The playlists now vary widely, and unfortunately, they’re not always to my taste. I remember cranking up to my favorite tracks; now, I often find myself longing for something less mainstream.

The Impact of Phones

Finally, let’s talk about phones. Nowadays, it seems everyone is using their devices for more than just tunes. Between selfies and filming workouts, it can be quite distracting! I found myself sometimes waiting for equipment because someone was filming a lengthy routine instead of actually working out.

Despite the changes, I’m excited to see how my fitness journey progresses from here. Stay tuned for more updates as I get back into the swing of things!
